What is a Medical Alert System?

A basic medical alert setup is made up of an electronic receiver about the size of an answering machine.

The receiver is connected directly to your home phone line or internet connection via your router.  Included with all medical alert systems is a wireless transmitter that communicates with the receiver.

These transmitters are generally worn around your wrist or neck.

There are many brands of equipment available and they can vary in quality, features, transmission range, and battery backup length.

Lower priced units generally have a shorter range and can't send their signal through your walls.

It is important that you know the maximum transmission of the device you choose.

There are also variances in sound quality of the receiver's speaker.  Some are quite poor and sound similar to a fast food drive-in window.

Be sure to have your installer/salesperson fully test your equipment in your presence, to ensure your satisfaction.
